Day #10 - $5 Family Dinner And Movie Night

Family Values

One thing about children they will either age you or keep you young. I have a 5yr boy and a 9yr girl that do both and I would not have my life any either way. I cannot recall how my life was before them and all I know is that since they were born, I was given a second chance at life. Unbeknownst to them, I owe them and I am in forever in their debt. My repayment is of course unconditional love, provisions and time. It is important for them to see that I enjoy their company and I want them to enjoy their childhood. I have so much fun with them and it is no hassle for me. I believe in celebrating the small things and I prefer to make them intimate and memorable by doing so, it helps with keeping a respectable budget and teaches the children that we do not always have to spend an excessive amount of money to enjoy ourselves. It does not take a lot of money to celebrate family. All it takes is love and personal touches to show each family member that they are valued and respected.

Movie Night

Growing up in the 70's and 80's movie night meant going to the drive-in theater with a car full of kids, neighbors, aunts, uncles and whomever else could fit into the car. It was the culture and it was fun. Time has changed and so has the culture. People either go to the movie theater, rent a movie from their cable provider or Red Box it. To save even more money, people have adopted the theme "movie night" making it a Friday night tradition in most homes. You grab your snacks, your pillows and blankets and watch movies until they watch you. Movie night is one of my family's personal favs. I try to tweak it whenever we have it. I will either make different snacks, make arts n' crafts popcorn bags, pick up theme decor from the Dollar Store or move the furniture to create a camp-feel. My intentions is for them to have an unique and fun experience each time.

The Concession Stand

This is the part where I have fun! I LOVE to cook and I love to cook different foods. I am BIG on appetizers, anything baked, kid-friendly snacks, new recipes, making original recipes and so on. Like most moms, I shop at the local grocery store for food and the discount store for household products. If you have not picked up on it yet, I LOVE me some Dollar Store! The Dollar Store has stepped its inventory up where they sell frozen foods, fresh produce and some name brands. If you go around the first of the month you may be able to find a vast amount of name brand quality foods for a dollar! Right on! Joking with my fiance one day, I told him that I was going to feed the family for $5. He said that he doubt it and I said "oh it's on like movie night popcorn!" Corny, I know BUT it gave me the idea to try my $5 dinner challenge for movie night. That way he would not expect filet mignon & the fixings. I went to my local Dollar Store on a mission and of course, Mama always win! Score! I was able to feed him and the children a full movie night themed meal with name brand items. Oh yeah, oh yeah! Peep the technique...

PrimeTime Popcorn, Rinaldi Pizza Sauce, Pizza Crust, Hormel Pepperoni & Sargento Mozzarella Cheese

Half Pepperoni & Half Turkey Bacon (the turkey was my daughter's last minute request, it is Jennie-O Turkey Bacon from the Dollar Store as well)

Sprinkled w/Italian Seasoning for extra flavor, YUM! I Win!!

Vegan Pizza Night for me - Stuffed Portabello Mushroom w/Meatless Italian Sausage, Garlic & Veggie Cheese (this meal is NOT a part of the Dollar Store Challenge)
The mushooms, sausage, garlic were sauteed in olive oil, stuffed then topped w/cheese & baked. This is ILLEGAL!!! SOOOOO GOOD & filling!!!
Pop in a classic, good times!

Happy Movie Night, Peeps!
